Fishery

Future employees of Vityaz-Avto caught their first fish in Ozernaya River in the end of the 90s.

That time the company wasn’t registered yet. The Government of Kamchatka Region issued quotas for salmon fishery — sockeye salmon, pink salmon, chum salmon, and smelt.

With years passing by, geographical presence and fleet have expanded, the number of fishermen has enlarged.

Fishermen, committed by years of teamwork, live as a family, spending months in the sea.

They usually start fishing in the middle of March, when it’s still winter in Kamchatka — snowy and cold. Wind gusts in Ozernovskiy Settlement can reach 40–50 m/s.

Fleet

The present day uninterrupted operation of the company is provided by 31 units of fleet and 120 units of vehicles. There is a repair-operating base in Ozernovskiy Settlement.

During the period between navigation seasons the fleet is relocated to the south — to the Ozernaya River.

Walleye pollock, navaga, flounder, smelt, and fish of other demersal and pelagic species are caught in the sea from MRS-type vessels by trawling method.

The front part of the trawl is opened with special spacers: horizontally with trawl doors and vertically with weights, floats, and hydrodynamic shields. Fish are forced into a net bag with special ropes.

A rope with the length of 500 to 1200 meters is put forward from the shore, it’s called “a wing”. At the end of the rope there is a trap. Fish go to the shore, rests on the wing and moves forward to the trap, from where it is relocated to storage cages.

River fishing is carried out with shore seines.

There are weights attached to the edges of the net, so it closes when being pulled out ashore and fish can’t go back into the river.

Machines help fishermen to pull nets ashore.
